NUYU

Nuyu wants to turn the view towards the people I have met in Dakar. The first time I came to Senegal was in 2013. I was invited and felt comfortable and welcomed straight away. We traveled across the country and had a good and intensive time. I soon discovered the people’s warmth and arranged to come back to spend more time in Dakar.

On my next visit, I rambled through the city. Dakar received me with lively energy. The city is a jumble of places and districts that seem entangled and impenetrable. Dakar is an emerging place, deeply rooted in traditions yet rigid at the same time. It’s hot and dusty, but then there is the Atlantic Ocean. The ocean is as powerful as it can be. On the other hand, it calms everything down, dampening the heat and the bustle of the city.

All the pictures I took are a connection between documentary, narrative, and personal impressions. I want to tell a story about friendship, personality, trust, and hope. Dakar is an intense setting that created a profound atmosphere. My ambition is to capture those moments that left a lasting impression.

I want to dedicate this book to everyone I met on my travels. It was always wonderful, and you enriched me.
